The biggest responsibility being a dog owner is to take care of your buddy’s health. So, we have got an Ultimate Dog Food Guide for you, that can make your four legged friend fit and healthy.
Also remember that dogs are more emotional towards their food as compared to human, so change of food and taste is sometimes not accepted by them.
1. Vegetarian Dog Food Guide
Things you can serve your dog :
- Black Beans
- Chickpeas
- Lentils
- Green Peas
- Cauliflower
- Bell Peppers
- Rice
- Whole wheat Bread (Chapati)
- Oats
Note: – Before giving any of these things, cooked it well and then feed it to your dog. You can add little bit of salt and spices but avoid any heavy use of salt or spices.
Things to be given only on moderate basis and not on regular basis:-
- Soybean
- Tofu
- Cottage Cheese
- Broken wheat with milk
- Curd ( It is a good source of energy for the dogs; you can give in the morning with some dog biscuits.)
Note: – (i) Do not give processed cheese, Butter to your four legged friend.
(ii) If your dog vomits out milk each time when you feed him, then it’s a clear indication that dog is lactose intolerant so avoid giving any milk base diet.
Fruits and Vegetables
Not all fruits and vegetables are good for your dog. So here is a list of what is good & what is bad for your friend :

(ii) Fruits like Mangoes, Strawberries, and Banana are high in sugar content so these can be given in only moderate level, not on a daily basis.
(iii) Potato, Sweet Potato, Pumpkin can be given to Dogs but only when this is well cooked and cooled.

2. Non Vegetarian Dog Food Guide
Things you can serve your dog :
- Chicken
- Mutton
- Egg – Both boiled and omelets
- Fish
- Pork
- Lamb
Note: – (i) All of these non-veg food first to be cooked with very less salt and spices. And Bones to be removed before feeding it to canines. You can also give broth to your dog.
(ii) You can give chicken, mutton bones but it should be cooked first and try to avoid chicken and mutton chops. But always remove bones from fish before feeding.
(iii) Do not give raw egg.

Have wide range of dry, canned food. Also have filler foods like corn and gluten meal.

The main offerings are chicken, rice, corn based food.
Note: – (i) For Eukanuba and Drools Dog food, their food is categorized based on age & size. Just like Eukanuba it has got meat as main ingredient and it reduces to 1/4th when cooked and rest left would be rice and by products.
(ii) Always prefer to buy first 1 Kg pack of any Dog food just to make sure that your dog likes it or not, then buy in large quantity.
Things to Remember while buying Dog Food
Like humans, Dogs need a balanced diet too. So when you go shopping for Dog food, remember these few things:
- Dog food should not have any artificial color & added preservatives.
- It should not contain any harmful agent or chemical.
- It should not contain high amount of sugary base products or corn syrup as sugar is a enemy to yours four legged best friend. (So avoid those items which have sweet taste and high sugar content. And do not give chocolates or ice creams to Dogs as this is very dangerous to their health.)
