A popular saying goes ‘morning shows the day’ and in a way morning also sets the mood for the entire day. Hence it is of utmost importance that you know how to start a day on a positive note. Engaging yourself in positive and healthy activities and thoughts in the morning is the best way to boost your energy level to help you face the challenges and struggles of the day.
Here are ten things that we think will brighten up your mornings and thereby your entire day.
1. Listen to your Alarm
Make sure you set your alarm every night and remind yourself that you aught to follow it. Do not go all snooze on the alarm. Starting your day on time and preferably early is a great way to start your day in the first place as it leaves you with a lot of time to indulge in things that you won’t find time for once your work routine commences.
2. Let there be Light
So says the Bible and so do we. Mornings should be about warm sunlight filtering into your home and creating patchworks of light and shade all over. Try to keep artificial lighting to a minimum, switch off the air conditioners and open your windows. Let natural air and sunlight flow in. The only way to do away with stale air is to let in fresh air. In addition, sunlight is also a natural disinfectant and kills a variety of germs that exist in the house.
3. Hydrate Yourself
You wake up in the morning after fasting all night; naturally, your body is dehydrated and it needs to be hydrated. Make it a point to drink at least a liter of water every morning on an empty stomach. It is a good way to detoxify your system and prepare your stomach for the harsh realities of the day. You can also drink lukewarm water with lemon and honey as it keeps your weight in check and also regulates bowel movement.
4. Morning Time = Me Time
Your mornings are yours, 100% yours. Keep a portion of your morning time solely to yourself. Do not compromise on this ‘me time’ even for the sake of your loved ones. Indulge yourself. Read the newspaper, give yourself a luxurious bath, plop yourself on the sofa and ruminate, meditate or do whatever pleases you but do it just by yourself. Probably these few minutes will be the only time you get for yourself in the entire day.

In addition to its well known benefits – it also keeps weight in check and is also known to be a cure for diabetes. It is also known to keep bad cholesterol and tooth decay at bay. Regular consumption also reduces the risk of high blood pressure.
6. Plan your Day
Make it a point to prepare a to-do list for your entire day every morning. It should include work engagements, important household chores, things you need to pick up and drop and if you tend to forget things like taking your medicine or drinking water, do jot them down as well. You can alternatively use stick-on notes and put them up in places in the house where you can easily spot them.
Make it a point to exercise everyday, especially if your job involves sitting long hours on a chair. Developing this habit of exercising every morning will make your muscles more supple and keep you light and energetic throughout the day. If you have diabetes or high pressure it is mandatory for you to go for a walk everyday. If you don’t feel motivated enough to do it alone then make it a group activity involving your entire family and let each one egg the other on.
8. Ban Negativity
Start your day by reading quotes, a poem or a few pages that are filled with optimism and help you look forward to the day. You can prepare a playlist of songs that soothe your senses and listen to it every morning. Alternatively you can also write down things to keep you motivated and charged up for the rest of the day.
9. Health is Wealth
Begin your day with a sumptuous albeit healthy breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day hence it makes sense that you put in some thought behind it. Do not rush through it. Do not go heavy on oil and grease rather choose a nutritious and wholesome meal. Include cereals, proteins in the form of milk or eggs, fruits, juices etc in your breakfast. Plan ahead, you could also include your whole family, take in their suggestions and make sure you all eat together.

Chances are you won’t see your loved ones for a long stretch of time post breakfast. So make sure you spend considerable amount of time with them before you all get busy. Talk about each others schedules, discuss the morning news, crack a few jokes, play with your pet and kiss your children before work puts all of these into the background.
