Kota Stone Flooring Installation Guide
What is Kota Stone?
It is a fine-grained variety of Limestone mainly used for exteriors, corridors, pathways, driveways, balconies, commercial buildings etc. Colors available – greenish blue, brown, black, pink, grey, beige.
Kota Stone Flooring Installation Process
Step 1 – Prepping the Surface
In a new construction, the flooring is raw and hence there is no need to break the flooring into pieces. On raw flooring, one has to put a 2 inches thick paste of Crushed Sand and Cement in the ratio of 7:1, hence for laying a 200 Sq. Ft. Flooring, 14 flagons of crushed sand and 2 flagons of cement are used.
In case of an old construction also, there is no need to break the existing floor. Floor is laid just after applying the mixture of Crushed sand and Cement in the ratio 5:1; hence use of 10 flagons of crushed sand and 2 flagons of cement is enough to maintain the thickness around 1.5 Inches.
Step 2 – Laying the Kota Stone Slab
The next step is to lay the slabs on the floor. All the pieces are to be set equally height-wise – a wooden tool is popularly used to align it well. The skirting is installed the next day.
Step 3 – Sticking the Slabs together
Normally white cement or epoxy is used to stick kota slabs together but high thixotropic knife-grade mastic is a good option to give the flooring a neat finish.
Step 4 – Cutting the stone slab
There is no need to cut Kota Stone slabs as they are already easily available in tile-form in the market. However, in order to make repairs on the laid flooring, cutting is used to make adjustments. And yes! Cutting is needed for the skirting.
Step 5 – Initial grinding of floor
Floor is grinded with diamond grit from 30 to 100 using a floor grinding machine.
Step 6 – Filling
Grout is filled with epoxy or high thixotropic knife-grade mastic.
Step 7 – Final grinding
Grinding is done again with diamond grits ranging from 200 to 3000 after the filling dries up.
Step 8 – Polishing
After final grinding, flooring is polished using Polishing Powder with a red scrubbing pad.
Step 9 – Crystallisation
In the end, crystallisation is done using a crystallisation chemical with a white scrubbing pad.
