Children love playing and in this tech crazy world you should encourage your child to go out into the open and play for long hours. But what to do about the grass stains they come up with especially if they are into games like cricket. Slight grass stains will come off easily with immediate laundering and stain treatment. For the tougher ones here is what all you can do:

In case of washable fabric

  • Rubbing alcohol or White spirit:

If the uniform is white and can be bleached, it can be very smart to use a chlorine bleach solution. But make sure you keep the ratio to 1:1 or else you may end up damaging the fabric.

  • Solution of water and detergent:

Soak the stain in a solution of water and detergent and then wash the garment as usual. Do       not put the garment in the dryer unless you are sure the stain has been removed completely.

WARNING –If it is a grass stain, make sure you do not use Ammonia as it may set the stain permanently.

In case of un-washable fabric

  • If the care label of your garment says that it isn’t washable, the best thing to do would be to rush to the drycleaner. You can try blotting the stain with a towel and some dry cleaning fluid available in supermarkets. Remember blot from inside the clothing to push the stain outwards.

Ketchup Stains

Ever seen a kid who eats carefully enough to not spill sauce on his clothes? Worse if the stain is left by ketchup. Only mothers who have struggled with ketchup stains know big an achievement it is to restore the garment to its original form.

While dealing with ketchup stains these are the steps you MUST follow

  • The first and foremost step is to use a knife or spoon to remove the excess ketchup. Make sure you aren’t rubbing it on the fabric though. You must never give it the time to settle on the fabric and let the stain become so challenging that you end up disposing your child’s favourite dress or shirt.
  • Next remove the shirt or dress as soon as possible and let ice cold water run over it. Remember, the water shouldn’t run over the stain but on the backside of it so that the stain is pushed outwards.
  • Post this, gently rub liquid detergent on the stain and soak the garment in cool water for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Finally wash it and air dry.
  • If the ketchup stain is still there, apply stain remover stick, spray or gel and launder according to directions that are mentioned on its tag.
  • If at all the garment requires dry cleaning, rush to your dry cleaner as fast as you can and point out the stain to him. The longer you wait, the harder it would be to get rid of the ketchup stain.
If your fabric is white in colour or you’ve already tested it’s colour fastness, you might as well use a bleaching agent such as hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar with a sponge.
